For the longest time, I thought there were only two kinds of meditation … The clear-your-mind-completely-and-sit-in-silence kind or visualization (which I learned in jr high). I was then introduced to the process of Big Mind. This was completely unfamiliar territory, but so intriguing to me that I had to keep going.
Near the end if 2017, I decided to download the Meetup app to find ways to meet new people in my city. It took me a few months before I found a group to try. It was a meditation group called Big Mind. I went to the first meeting with no knowledge of the process. I was confused and interested all at the same time. Basically, you are dialoguing through your meditative process with the help of a facilitator. I was a little weirded out after the first meeting, but I liked what was going on in my mind and what had opened up for me. So, I went again. And have been attending fairly regularly for almost a year.
This process has opened me to a new awareness of the world around me. I have always been interested in how and why people do what they do (People watching is one of my favorite ways to pass time). Through this process I have gained a more empathetic view of the world.
I have learned to use fear as a motivator, rather than a stopping point in my life. I have been able to look at my relationship with others in a different light.
We have also used Mindfulness and Breath work to balance the process, if things get too overwhelming or we encounter blocking.
I have really enjoyed getting to know myself in a deeper way and learning to recognize my feelings to gain more control over my response systems.
Meditation is one of the processes I highly recommend when it comes to healing and internal growth. Some of the best answers come from sitting with your own thoughts and feelings for a while.
